Dermaplaning is an exfoliation technique using a sterile surgical scalpel to gently remove dead skin cells and fine facial hair from the skin's surface.
What is it?
Dermaplaning is a non-invasive, non-surgical cosmetic procedure that shaves and skims the top layers of your skin using a surgical blade. Dermaplaning primarily addresses common skin concerns such as dullness, uneven texture, and fine facial hair, often referred to as peach fuzz. Additionally, it can help improve the appearance of mild acne scarring, fine lines, and superficial hyperpigmentation by promoting cell turnover and enhancing the penetration of skincare products. However, dermaplaning is not suitable for active acne, inflammatory skin conditions, or those with excessive facial hair growth.
Most people use dermaplaning on their faces, but this treatment can be used anywhere on the body.
What to expect
Before treatment, one of our Clarkston Dermatology skincare specialists will review your goals and examine your skin to ensure it’s healthy for the procedure.
As we begin treatment, you may feel a scratching and scraping sensation on the skin. This sensation is a normal reaction and isn’t painful. We use a gentle, sterile surgical scalpel to remove the skin cells and unwanted hair. The small blade moves back and forth across your skin, removing the top layers.
Depending on the area being treated, the treatment can take 15 minutes to an hour. Once complete, we’ll apply a soothing gel or ointment to the treated areas.
If you’re ready to reveal a refreshed, luminous complexion, call us today to schedule an appointment in one of our offices in Clarkston and Oxford, Michigan.
