A removal procedure where a mole is shaved or cut to remove it from the skin.
What is it?
Moles can differ in color from your natural skin hue to shades of pink, brown, and black. They typically emerge during adolescence and teenage years and can either be flat or protrude on the skin's surface. It's typical for 10 to 40 moles to show up on your skin by the time you reach adulthood. Some develop slowly, and some might even fade or vanish over time.
While the majority of moles are harmless, if you notice any troubling areas, visit our dermatology clinic in Clarkston and Oxford, Michigan. Our dermatologists will conduct a thorough examination and, if deemed necessary, we may suggest mole removal.
Mole removal is a procedure where one of our skilled dermatologists either shaves or cuts the mole to extract it from your skin. Some individuals desire mole removal for aesthetic reasons, such as facial moles. We can assist with this as well.
What to expect
Mole removal procedures are quick and performed in our office. You should be able to drive yourself back home after your appointment and resume your regular daily routine. When considering mole removal, it's crucial to steer clear of home remedies, as they can potentially lead to harm. Instead, always consult a board-certified dermatologist at Clarkston Dermatology.
Initially, the area to be removed will be cleaned and numbed with either a topical anesthetic or an injection. We typically use one of two mole-removal techniques: surgical excision (where a scalpel is used to cut off the mole from your skin) and shave excision (using a single or double-bladed razor to shave the growth off the skin). Our board-certified dermatologists in Clarkston and Oxford, Michigan, will discuss with you the best approach.
After mole removal, our team will treat the area and cover it appropriately. You will be given clear instructions for wound care at home, which usually involves keeping it clean and covered. Healing from the mole removal procedure can take up to three weeks.
