With the use of the Lutronic Spectra laser, a laser specially designed for the purpose of tattoo removal and the best one available today, your provider will direct the laser at the tattoo. When the light from the laser hits the pigment of the tattoo, it gets absorbed by the pigment which heats up and breaks apart. Essentially, the pulse from the laser travels so fast (6 billionths of a second) that the energy causes the pigment to shatter on impact. The number of laser tattoo removal sessions you will need depends on the depth of the tattoo ink, the number of colors in the tattoo, and the tattoo's size and shape. During your initial consultation, we will assess your tattoo and give you an idea of the number of sessions you will need. With each session, you will see your tattoo slowly fading away until there will be no pigment remaining. There are several side effects of the tattoo removal process that patients can expect when recovering, such as redness, bruising, tenderness, blistering, scabbing, and swelling, along with hyperpigmentation and hypopigmentation. All of these will be temporary and should subside after around a day or two to a week at most.
